The government has announced to give Padma Shri award to Ramkumar Malik (71), resident of Amta village of Baheri block in Darbhanga district, for his excellent work in the field of art. Shri Mallik was born in 1957 in Amta village of Bahedi block of Darbhanga.
Pandit Ramkumar Mallik comes from a prestigious musical family of Amta Gharana (tradition). He is the 12th generation in his family’s musical lineage. Ramkumar Malik inherited Dhrupad music from his father and world famous Dhrupad legend Pandit Vidur Malik. Pandit Mallik also got the opportunity to learn Dhrupad from his grandfather Lieutenant Pandit Sukhdev Mallik. He cites his grandfather Sukhdev Malik as his first guru, who is also a well-known classical music singer.
Mallik has knowledge of many compositions of Dhrupad music. His singing is known for its unique, rich repertoire of compositions, variety of Meer, Gamak, Laykari and Tihayis in addition to Khandarwani and Gauharwani. He has already been honored with many prestigious awards for his excellent music and contribution to Hindustani classical music.
Dhrupad is the most ancient and powerful genre of Hindustani classical music in his singing. Which is associated with the spiritual era (spiritual era). Dhrupad Sangeet is a divine sadhana, which can be felt in its presentation as well as musical sadhana. Dhrupad practices basic music since Vedic era for sound perfection and musical knowledge.
